August, 2: National Nightout 2022

The South Land Park Neighborhood Association (SLPNA) brings National Nightout on August 2nd, Tuesday.









February, 26 2022: Scholarship Program 2022

The South Land Park Neighborhood Association (SLPNA) has been supporting school-related events and activities since its inception. In late 2019, the Board of Directors developed the SLPNA scholarship fund. The scholarship focuses on community service and involvement.











October 29, 2021: Drive Thru Trick or Treat Event

On October 29 at the Belle Cooledge Community Center.

Start your Halloween weekend and enter the Belle Cooledge Community Center parking lot for a Drive Thru Trick or Treat experience starting at 7 pm on Friday October 29. See event link for more details and public health guidelines.





Rail to Trail: We Support the Del Rio Trail


SLPNA is strongly supporting the Del Rio Trail project. This 4.5 mile long stretch of abandoned rail line runs through the heart of South Land Park, from the Zoo to roughly Pocket Rd at Freeport Blvd. Neighborhood surveys show 83% support from residents, businesses, and schools.

As we predicted years ago, train buffs are proposing (again) to run heavy locomotive tourist trains on the narrow corridor that has been designated for a community trail. This unpopular and ill advised train scheme has no real support, but we are forever vigilant and prepared to stand united with all of our neighbors and elected officials.

APRIL 1 NEIGHBORHOOD OPEN HOUSE

  • Saturday, April 1 from 1 pm-3 pm at Barrio Cafe and Bakery Come meet your neighbors and Neighborhood Association volunteers at Barrio Cafe! Enjoy complimentary refreshments, kids art stations, and mingle with neighbors and friends. Join Council Member Schenirer for a formal ribbon cutting to welcome Barrio Cafe and Bakery to South Land Park. Sponsored by SLPNA, Barrio, and Council Member Jay Schenirer.

Improvements to Florin West Center Nearing Completion

SLPNA supports the construction of new retail buildings and the numerous improvements to the building facades and landscaping in the aging Florin West Center. The whole center is undergoing a modernization and upgrade thanks to the developer, MO Capital. Our board met with the developer and submitted comments to the City in November 2016.

The shopping center is home to a Bel Air grocery store, Round Table Pizza, ABC Bakery, and several other businesses that serve South Land Park, Z'Berg Park, and Greenhaven neighborhoods.

Residents will be pleased to know that Raleys also plans to do a major remodeling of the Bel Air grocery store at this center. Round Table is also doing a major remodel. When construction is complete, the center will be renamed the South Land Park Shopping Center. We look forward to the ribbon cutting- so stay tuned!

New Gas Station / Car Wash on Freeport Blvd

A proposal has been submitted to build an AM/PM gas station/car wash at the corner of Freeport Blvd. and Blair Avenue, across from the entrance to the Executive Airport. The proposal includes an application to sell beer/wine, and have multiple vacuums as part of the car wash. Click here to view the application, preliminary drawings, etc.

SLPNA polled our membership and found general support for the gas station/market and car wash. However, half of the respondents indicated they may want limitations on the hours for wine and beer sales. The board sent comments to the City in September 2016.






New Raleys Flagship Store and Shops Coming to Freeport Blvd

After a lengthy project review period and litigation, the new Raleys flagship project is under construction at the site of the old Capital Nursery on Freeport Boulevard. SLPNA supported this project and testified at the City Council. An interesting historical note: Raleys agreed to the requests of SacMod.org in preserving the iconic Raleys neon sign and moving it to the new store location- what a great idea.

The South Land Park store is the grocery chain's most profitable. This location serves thousands of residents in South Land Park, Land Park, Hollywood Park, Curtis Park and Mangan Park.
